Kimbab and tteokbokki! :D

DISCLAIMER: THESE RECIPE MAY NOT BE ACCURATE. IF YOU SERIOUSLY WANT TO COOK THIS, PLEASE ASK MR GOOGLE. HE'S YOUR MAN. COOK AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Oh well, I follow my mom's cooking principle: The important thing is to get the flavour right, master the basic technique and/or sugar-salt-spice balancing. The rest? Just throw in anything that you think will gonna work.

Yesterday, my beloved babes and I have the opportunity to make our own kimbab and tteokbokki! ^_^

My seonsaengnim (Korean language teacher) organised a kimbab and tteokbokki-making session, and it was awesome, unforgetable, enjoyable and fun!!

Seonsaengnim started the session with demonstrations on making kimbab and tteokbokki. Ah, let me end my rambling here and continue typing about the food. Heeee~

Kimbab looks like sushi. It is basically a rice roll, and I think the only thing that differs it from sushi is its ingredients. You can throw anything you like in it, do some rolling (keep on rolling rolling yeah!) and ta-da! Done!

Kimbab
- Prepare/precook the ingredients. Put anything you like. To make kimchi kimbab, you have to fry (cook) it first. Only the leaves part are used in kimbab-making.
- Lay a seaweed on top of a sushi roller
- Spread a layer of Korean @ Japanese rice (they are sticky) evenly and nicely. Not too thick and not too thin, just nice enough.
- Put on your ingredients and make sure they are not too thick.
- LET's ROLL!!!!

Macam buat sushi la.

This is 'hantamsajalahlabu' kimbab.

Made by bunch of first-timers (us).

And next came the tteokbokki~!!! This is a snack that is commonly sold by street vendors (in Korea la). It is... erm... I don't know how to describe this so, here, the explanation from Mistah Wikipedia.

'Have ya read that? Read pls!'

Have I mentioned that we were first-timer? But the flavour is realllllll goooddddd~!

That's fishcake.

We cooked the modern one. The steps are:

The Stew

-Put just enough water to cover your ingredients with the stew
-Add the gochujang (Korean chilli paste). The more you put, the spicer (but somewhat sweeter) your stew will be!
-To thicken it, add some corn syrup.
-Throw in some sugar, spice, and anything nice! :P (If you want to make Powerpuff girls. If not, just add sugar).
-Add chilli flakes (optional). This chilli flake is like the ones we had at Domino's.

The ingredients
-Here, we used boiled egg, fish-cake, rice-cake, sausage, and fried egg. Well, we love to tmix and match! Teeeheeee~
-After the stew is done, put everything in, and left it for a while (until you think it is ready).

Our second batch of tteokbokgi. It was spicier and yummier~!! :D

Kimchi 101
Kimchi is made of cabbage fermented with seasoning. The one showed here was a packed one.

[Made me think: If they can pack kimchi, why can't we pack tapai? Or bambangan? Haha~]

I am not too fond of its taste when I ate it on its own. But, top it on a kimbab (or put it in), and your kimbab will be yummier~~~ ^_^

The ingredients can be found in Korean market (Koreatown, anyone?)

Now I'm starting to miss Seoul Garden.......

Coolbelog~!

No pictures, as I was too thirsty and hungry.

I just got back from Food Court.

Not as awesome and tastylicious as The Mines' Coolblog, but still it can satiate your craving.

Me? I always crave for its volcano milk tea.

Cupcake paling menang!!! :D

Yummy cupcakes yeayyy~ :D

But, we had to carry the cupcake box all the way from KLCC to KL Sentral, hence the horribly disfigured cupcakes T_T

But they were still yummy and tasty! :D But I forgot the names, so I just describe them according to their flavour, okie?

This is mine. Vanilla cake with lemon-flavoured frosting. My friend said [tak sedappp!] but I think this cake is ok. Guess we have different taste buds, no?

My girls, Biha and Ain bought this red velvet cupcake. I had this before and boy, it was superbb!!!

And yeay!! My fav yummy choc cupcake with vanilla frosting!

That cake with so many hearts on it is all choc. Choc cake, choc topping. Look how badly damaged the cakes were! But their deliciousness is retained, I assure you that!! :D

The company name. Duh.

Location: Bijou(or Bisou?) Bake Shop, Centre Court 3rd floor, Suria KLCC.
Price: RM 5 each.

Food o' food!

My first food is mom's breast milk.

My first solid food is... errr.... ahhhhh... uhmmm...

When I was a wee kid, the only reason I went to KFC was to play at its mini playground. I seldom eat the chicken.

I want to try kimchi. The real kimchi.

I am so focused when I eat. So focused to the point of ignoring everything around me. XD

I love to eat my fries with tomato ketchup.

I prefer to eat burger without chilli sauce. It kills the taste.

I do not understand why most Malaysians loves to dispense lots of chilli sauce at fast food joints. 1 tray *you know, that little thing. apa nama dia?* is enough la!!!

Ever since I arrived here (UPM), I suffered from fresh fish inadequacy. Warrggghhhh!!!! I really love fish!!!

I hate catfish.

I love grilled salmon with black pepper. Terubuk pun sama!

I love meat. Especially kambing. And lamb too!!

I love to eat raw cabbage & raw carrot!

Errrrr..... k bye.

Ayam yang menipu.

Mango cordial.

Ate halfway, then snap 'em. All for RM3.50.

Highlight of today's lunch.

Again, sorry for the crappy camera. I ain't got no DSLR!

The chicken looked yummy and juicy. At the first bite, I fell in love with it and decided to give it a near-perfect score. But as I sank my teeth deeper into its flesh, I noticed that the manuk is not fully cooked!

So, I should kiss you goodbye, o' near-perfect score.

Seriously, ayam. You have excellent taste. Perfectly grilled, succulent, juicy. Complemented with special chilli gravy* (what's kuah in Malay? [Ok it's gravy]), this ayam nearly made me drooooollllllll~~

I hope the cook would improve this in the near future.

Place: The stall at Putra Food Court UPM (the one sits in between Gerai Pok Yie and drinks stall)
Price: Rice + egg soup + kailan + chicken = RM 3.50
Rating: 6.5/10.

Kek Keju Oreo.

It may look tasty.

But umm....

Sorry for the crappy pics.
I did not bring any decent camera with and thus, the crappy pic taken with a crappy camera phone.

I did not have a high expectation for its taste, as this is not a cake from ye (not so) olde Resepi Rahsia.

Price: RM4.50/slice
Rating: 5.5/10
